The cold within
The lasy man of this forlorn group
Did nought except for gain.
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.
Their logs held tight in death's still hand
Was proof of human sin.
They didn't die from the cold without
They died from cold within

The phrase 'forlorn group' means a group of people sad and lonely. The poet says that all the person near the fire were selfish. The figure of speech used here is oxymoron. It is a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction.
Answer2.
The game referred here is the game played by the last man which was based on the give and take policy which means he didn't want to give anything to anyone unless he would get something in return for his benefit. So he plays the game of selfishness and did not gave his log to the fire.
Answer3.
Human beings are expected to have fellow feeling. They should have warmth and sympathy for each other. But the six men have no warmth of human relations. They suffer from prejudice, bigotry, greed, hate, revenge and selfishness. These are deadly sins that lead to their death
and destruction
Answer4.
No doubt the six men are trapped in bleak and bitter cold from which they can have no escape. They were sure to die. But they did not die from the cold weather. There was
a fire that could keep them alive. Though each of them had a stick to keep the fire burning, they withheld their . sticks and died. It was the lack of warmth in their hearts that actually killed them. Their hearts were cold.
